Answer Summary : All teachers, students, and even schools need to be evaluated. And students are evaluated through tests. The problem is that tests are created through textbooks and teachers have to follow textbooks strictly to teach the tests. But textbooks are not always the best when it comes to speaking a language where students lack even though everything is rehearsed.
4. I'm interested in using movies for English class like you usually do. Then what are the advantages and disadvantages in teaching English with movies?
Answer Summary : The advantages are these three things. First, teachers can introduce cultures to students effectively. Second, students can immediately pay attention to class because they like anything on TV. Also it is more natural language and not strict conversation.
The disadvantages are these two things. First, every class is different in level so it can be effective or not depending on the class level. Second, it can be really difficult for students to focus on subject matters not the words or sentences. So students are likely to focus on subtitles not the situation.
5. What do you think about making curriculum for mp3 players or smart phones?
Answer Summary : Everything is changing so education has to change. Mp3 players or smart phones can be used to save files, do homework and communicate with teachers asking questions.
6. What is your best method in teaching writing?
Answer Summary : He uses warm-ups, diaries, and journal exercises. And his best method is free writing, which he poses a question and then has students write anything about the question. When he grades them he attaches great important to creative and free thinking.
What I have learned through the interview
First of all, I've learned how important teacher's role in education through all my questions and I've pondered upon the influence of curriculum and assessment on teaching and learning and I've realized that they are all influential to each other. And I've got some specific tips to teach English writing. In addition, I've got the idea that I need to use high technology not to get behind the times.

답글삭제It was an interesting question that you mentioned about mp3 players or smart phones because more and more students are accustomed to those tools. Even a few year ago I was a kind of old-fashioned teacher who couldn't use various technologies for the class. But I found that our young generation is much closer to the technologies than I had expected. That's why I modified much part of my curriculum with online classes, internet-based listening program, voice-identified computer system, etc.
It helps the learners practice a lot, but it will never replace teachers' roles in motivating the learners.
